Web Apps iPhone - Design & Develop your Company Website for optimized for PC (Personal Computers) and Apple iPhone
Now that the iPhone is out there and in full-swing, everyone will eventually need a iPhone friendly site.
When we build a Web site we think about who's going to view it and how they are going to view it. We take into account what type of device the page is being viewed on, including the resolution, color options, and available functions. We view the site on PC browsers as well as iPhone to test view the compatibility of our web pages.
Here are some important things we consider while designing and developing Websites optimized for PC (Personal Computers) and Apple iPhone:
- Stylesheet: We provide a separate CSS stylesheet to users with small screens (such as mobile devices) by using the CSS3 media query inside your LINK tag for your stylesheets.
- Input Device: The input device with an iPhone is not a mouse, but rather a pair of the users fingers. We avoid using things like mouseover events since they don’t exist, and also to design with the user in mind. Rather than thinking in terms of a mouse and clicks, we accommodate iPhone supported events in for iPhone users.
- iPhone Viewport: iPhone shows Safari "windows" as full-screen, or 320px x 480px. We use some META tag properties that Apple has devised that helps the iPhone to display the page better.
- Forms: The screen is small, and is also used for input when needed. When designing forms, we make sure to account for the "keyboard" that appears on the screen when the user is inputing data to a web form.
- Images: Yes, the iPhone can zoom and unzoom in on images, but the smaller they are, in both dimensions and download time, the happier your wireless customers will be. So we make images smaller for iphone and implement them using CSS so that they appear bigger on PC browsers.
- Flash: Most cell phones do not support Flash, so we do not include it on your wireless pages.
